the essay finished and textiles workshops

In Wednesday morning, finally I've done my essay.(very thanks to my great friend...)
I think I understood less than 1% about "cultural geography", but the essay question was quite interesting.
I thought sometimes art is a kind of mirror of culture.

the 1st half of this week, everything in my brain was about the essay, and other students were the same, I guess. However, once I handed my essay in, I forgot everything about the essay and my brain was filled about the workshop. Actually I enjoyed it very much!

Now, Easter holiday is coming! Time to go home!

structures project final review

The final review for structures project had finished. I was happy at the review group, because there's fashion students, too. At the last project, the review group was separated into fashion and textiles, so I couldn't see presentation of fashion students.
I was interested in how they made such garments, and where their inspiration came from. As I expected (probably more of it) presentation was interesting.

Not only fashion, but textiles students' ones are great. They sometimes had similar experiences to mine, but sometimes are not. All of them tried slightly/totally  different experiments to mine. By sharing the experience each other, I always get motivation for the next.

I thought that everyone mentioned about the light box whatever they used or not. I'm one of them who liked the light box.

Needless to say, the after project party was so exiting. There are sweets, foods, drinks and chatty people! It can't be boring!

Thanks to Luis, I could take photo of a figure waring my cape.
Despite this dark photo,  the studio at that moment was bright!

GSA fashion show

The longer I stay here, the more I like the GSA.
1st year F&T students were working for GSA fashion show held at WGS3 meanwhile we had our own exhibition. It was absolutely great experience to work as dressers. We could see garments closer and could see their designers too. Behind the fashion show was busy, but no one was nervous nor irritated.

After finish working, I saw the fashion show. I've only seen a couple of fashion shows before, but I felt that the fashion show was great, successful one. I really admire our senior students. I can't believe that they're students, and wonder if I can be like them 1 or 2 year after. Need to study harder!

There are photos of the fashion show below.(I'm so sorry about I can't show everything)

statement

Although I said how it was beautiful that the all pieces is gathered at the gallery, each pieces is lovely too! There are some photos of my classmates work below. (I'm so sorry about I can't show all)

My classmates are absolutely great. I'm really lucky to be able to related to them. If my 'statement of purpose' for the GSA didn't pass the admission, I wouldn't be here...
Now I want to state 'I AM VERRY HAPPY TO BE IN THIS CLASS!!!'

structures project end -1st year fashion & textiles exhibition-

From Tuesday to wednesday, 1st year Fashion & Textiles had an exhibition at the skypark gallery. I was excited to the exhibition from the beginning of this project, so I was so happy when I saw all works is pinned up on the wall. Recently I started to how to show my pieces better as well as how better pieces I would make. Although I quite happy with my paper textile and drawings, I really liked the atmosphere at the gallery. On this project, all pieces are displayed beautifully thanks to our tutors, stephen and some classmates, I hope I can manage it by myself someday.

By the last project, I haven't had a chance to see all classmates' work at the same time, and although I could see theirs at the studio, unless I'm in the same group at final reviews, it's rare to see their final pieces were pinned up. Especially paper garments of fashion students are stunning!! This is because I didn't know how they're going to be.

While I enjoyed looking around others' pieces, I also found it interesting to see my own pieces from a view point of a third party. When I'm making mine, I'm always looking at my pieces as a maker, but when I saw mines as a viewer, it looked a bit differently.

laughter is therapy

Finally, I finished the 2nd drawing, and almost ready for the exhibition.
I've got the inspiration from photos with light box, and I'm quite happy with colours of the drawing. Recently I quite often use tracing paper for my work of projects. The reason of it is simply drawing on tracing paper is fun. The effect which tracing paper makes on another paper behind it is always interesting.

We will carry our paper textiles/garments and their experiments, and drawings to the gallery, in tomorrow afternoon. By concentrating on the project for 2 weeks, I've almost done my pieces, and been tired these days. BUT, a poster on the noticeboard cheered me up! I'd keep it in mind.

that's why I love my school mates

the world is at your command

Today, I finished drawing one of two A3 drawings of the final piece for the exhibition at the end of term. Purple and yellow is one of my favorite colour combinations. This colour combination reminds me my dad's funny memory in his childhood. When he was little, he draw a landscape picture with purple and yellow oil pastels, and then a kindergartener who looked his picture was surprised and told his mother (my grandma) that he was a bit strange.

I think we tend to rely on common knowledge and be scared to challenge to something different from it. The sky is blue,  clouds are white and land is brown.
As long as we live in the real world, we need to follow the majority in some aspects, but I believe that the world in your mind should be freedom.

a magical box

Recently, Glasgow has hidden its traditional weather, so we can see the sun in the daytime, and stars at night. Those irregular things make me happy.
Although I was exhausted when I left the studio tonight, once I found twinkling stars in the dark sky, I felt better. The sunshine in the early morning gives me power as well.

I appreciate natural light, but I was fascinated with the artificial light, today. During the tutorial, Chloe advised me to use a light box in the studio before starting drawing. It was the first time to use the light box for me, although I've known that there is it. I wondered if my work could look differently, because paper I used was not thin nor see-through.
Actually I didn't need to worry about that. I'm happy with those pictures below, and found a prompt of drawings.

Now, many pieces of paper scattered around my desk, and some of them traveled to neighbourhood.
sorry guys

tiny scissors having massive power

Recently, I'm crazy for cutting paper.
For the current project, we are making 'paper textiles', and I'm going to make a circular skirt with paper laces like below. In the last weekend, I found that I can cut out brick patterns by folding and cutting paper, and now I have found lots more patterns during this couple of days.
Yesterday, I bought a tiny pair of scissors, so that I wouldn't brake this fragile lace when I'm cutting out. It helps me to find much more delicate patterns with their sharp edges.
Now I'm excited about them, but the important thing is, how do I join them up into a circular shape. I wish I can find good idea by a tutorial on Monday.
